The station idea was conceived sometime in 2006, but was not really taken seriously until around May 2007. Basically we were sick of hearing all the radio stations both local and national playing the exact same songs as each other, sometimes in fact the set lists were so similar that you could tune to another station on the band and find them playing the exact same song that was on the previous station you just tried to get away from! Not everyone is into chart music, we have nothing against chart music, it's just not our cup of tea. Nobody was catering for people that like to listen to Rock or Metal music, many stations don't even consider it to be real music, but it is a hell of a lot more real than pressing a button on a computer to automatically generate a No.1 hit for you.. Anyway enough of that...

[MetalHertz FM crew in early 2009]
We were tired of sitting around talking about how we never hear any rock on the airwaves or maybe once a year a station will play a bit if a band if on tour in the area and they are being paid to promote the gig for them. So we put together a plan to bring metal and rock to the airwaves of Waterford.
In early may 2007 we started putting our gear together and planning a setup, after much testing etc. the idea fell apart as we lost our premises and with much else going on around us we had to suspend the idea for a few months, however in February of 2008 we got a new premises and began Broadcasting to the airwaves of Waterford on 99.9MHz, after only 3 weeks on air we doubled our power to give a stronger signal to listeners while extending our range right to the borders of Kilkenny, Wexford and Tipperary, then with the introduction of our "TXT Metal Hotline" the station came alive with requests flying in every night we were on air.. After a year of unlicensed broadcasting we decided to come off air voluntarily and explore the option of applying for a temporary broadcasting license from the BCI (now known as the BAI) Currently we are an Internet station and hope to someday return to the airwaves under legal terms. During our time on air in Waterford we brought some amazing acts to Ireland and promoted numerous high profile rock and metal events for some of Irelands biggest promotion companies, we also interviewed some of the biggest names in rock and metal, all the time working closely with the some of the largest record labels in the world to bring the latest news in the rock industry live to the airwaves, Today we provide a 24 hour a day 7 days a week online service still bringing metal and rock to your ears, and keeping you up to date with live events and all the industry happenings!
We made this for you! Rock on!
